Safety First: How to Navigate Roads Shared with Bicycle Riders

You know the rules of the road, but how do bicycle riders fit into the guidelines? Believe it or not, cyclists have the same rights and responsibilities of car drivers. However, you can't control how others navigate Reading streets, so it's best to know some safety tips when you're sharing roadways with those on bicycle.

Increasing safety is easier when you drive the speed limit or little under. Pay attention to those on bicycle as well as those walking, in wheelchairs and on skates, skateboards or any other motorized device. When you encounter a cyclist, allow three feet between them and your car. If there's not enough room to ride side-by-side, let the cyclist have the entire lane.
